Orphanage for Children – Manikkavasagar illam (2012-2023)

Prior to 2012, The Manikkavasagar illam is Boys’ Home in Batticaloa was fully funded by us through
Manitha Neyam Trust. Blossom Trust managed the
Manikkavasagar Home between 2012 and mid of 2 nd quarter of 2023.
Illam (meaning home) was struggling with no regular income and was dependent on hand-outs and ad-hoc gifts received from well-wishers. They were in a dire position, desperately struggling to cope with the needs of over 50 children.
We constructed a large home with a central sleeping hall, private study rooms, vital IT facilities, as well as six bathrooms and toilets. Blossom Trust carefully maintained the good condition of the building and progress of these children and provided additional tuition where required to achieve their academic goals.
However, Blossom trust had to withdraw our support due to continuous reduction in no of children joining the illam and over 16 years old boys departing from illam, which resulted in number of boys staying in illam were reduced to less than 10 boys. The home has been handed back to be managed by local govt funds
