Trustees received a request to support single mothers with children, who were making ends meet by selling a Sri Lankan food called string hoppers, with their limited kitchen facilities. Our investigation found that they were well-regarded for their dishes and receiving regular requests from a local restaurant for bulk orders. However, due to their lack of kitchen space and equipment, they were unable to fulfill these orders.
We purchased the necessary equipment, including two gas stoves and cylinders, which enabled them to increase their output and meet requirements for bulk orders—thereby increasing their earnings threefold.
